The Best ATVs for Kids this Christmas
Maybe your child has been a long-time ATV passenger and wants their own ride. Or maybe they’ve recently discovered the thrill of ATVing, and you’re wondering what sort of ATV for kids would be right for your little one.
We’ve got some specs, some safety tips, and some gear gift ideas for you, so hang on as we run through the best ATVs for kids.
ATVS FOR KIDS: THINGS TO CONSIDER
There’s a few things to take into account when choosing an ATV for your little rider, so we’ve listed them for you here.
Pick The Right Size
Don’t just choose an ATV you think your kid will like—take them along and get them to sit on the ATV and see if they’re comfortable.
In addition to that, make sure to answer the following questions:
- Are their arms long enough to turn the handlebars?
- Can they pull on the brake lever, throttle, or other hand controls?
- Can their feet reach the foot rests?
If you can’t check off all of those boxes, you should look for a different ATV because it’s critical in order to control the ATV, so make sure it ‘fits’ them.
Get An Instructor To Teach Them
You’re likely a good, super safe, and super careful rider, but everyone has their own bad habits. Rather than pass those on to your kid, get an ATV instructor who can show them all the ins and outs of riding, as well as the local riding rules, so they learn good habits early.
GET THE RIGHT SAFETY GEAR
Kids can bounce back from a lot, but since they’re still growing, they are pretty fragile. Here are the most important accessories to get them ready to ride.
Helmet
The most important piece of equipment protects the most vital part of your child—their head. Make sure they’ve got a helmet that fits them properly and isn’t too tight or too loose.
Gloves
Small hands need protection, and gloves can only protect if they fit, so ensure they’ve got the right size gloves for their hands.
Jacket
Some extra padding never hurts, and it can help prevent road rash and other injuries. Like with everything else, make sure it fits so it can protect properly.
We’ve got some children’s ATVs available at our Cornwall, Almonte, and Kingston locations that would be great gifts for little riders.

ATVS FOR KIDS: OUR RECOMMENDATIONS
The following ATVs are great for kids and available at Throttle Powersports.
ARGO XPLORER XC 90
Good for kids 12 and up, the Argo Xplorer XC90 has an adjustable throttle that allows you to limit their speed and a handlebar tether cord to use as an emergency shut off for the engine. This is a great model to teach kids the fundamentals of ATV riding, and it’s available at our Cornwall and Almonte locations.
KAWASAKI KFX90
The Kawasaki KFX90 is another ATV that’s great for kids 12 years and up. It has automatic transmission and a 90cc engine that will be a good fit for your young rider. It’s also a bit lower to the ground, with a 3.9 inch road clearance, which can help smaller kids get on it easier.
KAWASAKI KFX50
The Kawasaki KFX50 has a smaller 50cc engine, which makes it ideal for little riders six years old and up. It won’t get away from them while they learn to operate it, and a lower ground clearance of 3.3 inches means it’ll be easier to get on and off.
